Pinellas Safe Harbor is a community supported emergency homeless shelter and jail diversion program located in Clearwater, Florida.

It is managed by the Pinellas County Sheriffs Office having been established through partnerships with the County Sheriffs Office, the City of St Petersburg, the County Government and other support services and organizations for homeless people.

The shelter aims to support homeless people, keeping them out of the criminal justice system and giving them the ability to rebuild their lives. There is therefore not only a benefit to those directly served, but also to the local community.

A new visitor to the facility is assessed by a member of staff or a social worker for appropriateness, including medical and mental health check-ups and suitability to live with the other residents.

Residents receive basic healthcare on-site as required throughout the week and can be referred for medical, dental and mental health services.

Three meals are served daily in the dining room. They are prepared in the Metropolitan Ministries or partnering churches, delivered to the facility and kept warm. Unfortunately, there is not yet a kitchen on the premises.

The program also partners with food providers to receive donations of food.

Donations of clothing are welcomed, particularly of unworn clothes including underwear. There are washing facilities on the site allowing residents to do their laundry.

Bikes are available for residents to borrow. Those that need transportation further afield (such as those who are employed or have medical appointments to attend) are provided with motorized transport. There are bus stops near the shelter.

Classes are held to teach self-support skills to residents. They include life skills, financial budgeting and skills required for employment.

The facility is maintained by the residents themselves, and also inmate workers from the local jail (some of whom may pass through the facility on release).
